犬の進化
「198ｃｍ・180ｃｍ・162ｃｍ」　これは、身長180ｃｍを基準にして、上下一割増減の表です。　私が、勝手に決めて作ったもので、科学的・学術的根拠はまったくありません。　人類・成人・男性の身長がほぼ全て、180ｃｍ上下一割に入ることを示そうとしました。
我々が、実は、皆、同じくらいの身長だから、だからどうした。　・・電線に並んでいるカラスだって、皆、揃って、同じくらいだ・・と言われそうですね。
しかし、犬を見てください。ほぼ同じ大きさに揃っていた狼が、人間と付合い始めてわずかの間に、手のひらに乗りそうなものから、胴回り一抱えありそうな巨大な犬まで、大変な種類になっています。　　それは、我々人間が、自己中心の品種改良？をしたから・・・と言われるでしょう。　それなら、猫はどうでしょう。　胸元にじゃれつく、片手に乗るくらい、１／２サイズの猫、あるいは豹ほどに大きくて、堂堂とした立派な猫。　欲しいな、飼いたいなという人達が眼に浮かぶようですね。　両方とも、自己中心的、人間社会のマーケットに十分乗りそうな商品でしょう。　しかし、見当たりません。　考えてみると、家畜・ペットの中で、犬だけ際立って、姿・形をかえているようです。
猫は、飼い主を仲間と思っている。　飼われているとは思っていない。　鼠を捕る以外に役に立たない。　それに引き換え、犬は、番犬・牧羊犬・盲導犬・警察犬、実に役立つ、忠誠心が高い・・・・・。
よく巷間で語られる犬猫談義ですがどうも、それとは別に、犬には独特の遺伝因子があるのではないか・・・という、素人談義。　暑苦しくて、眠れない、夏の夜の頭の体操。
The evolution of the dog
“198cm, 180cm, 162cm” this is a list I made which has no scientific or academic basis. My intension is to show the height, length of us human males are rather same; 180cm plus / minus 10%.
You might tell me: “We are rather same in length. Then what? Crows lining on a cable are always same.”
But look at the world of dogs. Today there are so many different sizes of dogs; so small ones that can sit on a palm to so big ones that a child can ride on its back.
Again you might tell me: “They are the results of our egoistic artificial breeding.”
Then look at cats. A half size cat playing on your chest could be very sweet. A cat as big and handsome as a leopard could be great to keep at home. Both of them can develop huge profitable market. But nobody has made them. It seems that only dogs have astonishingly changed their sizes and forms.
Cats consider their owners, masters, mistresses, as just mates. Not as subordinates. Cats catch rats and roaches but not more. Dogs can be watchdogs, shepherd dogs, guide dogs, police dogs. They are very useful and faithful. These are standard common street chats. But I feel somehow there is something more in these banal topics.
In a hot summer night, difficult to sleep; it occurred to me that there might be some peculiar DNA in the dog related to their significant evolution; variations of the form and high capability.
