| 紅葉 去年は、猛暑・酷暑が長くて、いつまでも秋らしくならず、どういうことにかるかと思っていたら、いつの間にか裏切られることなく例年に劣らない紅葉を楽しむことができました。 熱帯や寒帯はともかく、世界には、わが国と似たような気候の国々は数多く、そこでは、やはり紅葉の季節があるわけです。 しかし、「春の桜」と「秋の紅葉」を、観光資源として、ポスター・カレンダー・ＴＶ番組に日本ほど押し出している国々は、ないようです。 アジアでは、お隣り・ご近所の国々、ヨーロッパにも有名な観光国、北米大陸の国々、どこの国も、「春の桜」と「秋の紅葉」をツーリズムの目玉にしてはいませんね。 桜はともかく、紅葉は、それほど我が国独自の自然現象とは思えないのに何故か取り上げない。 観光の目玉にしない。 思うに、日本人には、「秋の紅葉」を「美しいな」、「素晴らしいな」と感じる心が強く、世界中の人々も、同じように感じているのだろうと思い、ためらうことなく、日本観光の目玉としているのではないでしょうか。 我が国では、「春の桜」と「秋の紅葉」ともに、季節に従い、自然の山野を満たします。 それにアイデアを得、啓発され、庭園の設計では、この季節の景色が昔から重要な要素とされていますね。 山の紅葉でひときわ鮮やかなのは、漆の葉です。漆は、英語で「japan」、漆塗り実用品・工芸品も「japan」、なるほど、納得です。 自然現象としての紅葉は、気温の変化・・暖から寒・・に敏感に反応し、急速に進み、最盛時の次には、一夜で落葉しますね。 日本のもみじは、種類が多いので、景色全体としては、紅葉狩りをしに、一泊旅行を計画する時間的ゆとりがあります。 カナダの国旗は、楓ですね。思うに、北よりの気候帯では、木も魚も動物も、単一種が多量といわれ、きっとカナダの楓の紅葉は、美しく、強烈だが、しかし期間が短い、これが観光資源には不向きな要素なのかも知れません。 （あるいは、皆さん、見慣れすぎて、さほど綺麗な観光資源だとは感じていなかったりして・・・。） Autumn leaves Last summer in Tokyo was extremely hot and long. I was worried when or if we would ever have an autumn. Today we have an unusually cold winter. So we had an autumn with beautiful colored leaves. Apart from the tropical countries and also subarctic countries, there are many places in the world where their climates are rather similar to Japan. These places would have similar woods and similar beautiful autumn landscapes. In the tourism industry, Japan tries to sell the beauty of colored autumn leaves of gardens and mountains. But among our neighbor countries in Asia, among those touristic places and countries in Europe and in the American continent, I don’t find any country advertising their beauties of the autumn leaves. The cherry blossoms could be considered very Japanese since nowhere than Japan has so many cherry trees which are only for blossoms. But the beauty of colored leaves can’t be a Japanese specialty. It might be so that Japanese in general appreciate the colored autumn leaves very much and believe that the other people in the world also appreciate the autumn leaves therefore Japanese tourism industry try to sell them without hesitation. In Japan, following the process of the seasons, cherry blossoms and autumn leaves cover sceneries both in the nature and in the city life. The Japanese gardens are designed carefully to correspond to this process. In Japanese forest, there is a kind of tree with especially bright red autumn leaves. Japanese name of this tree is “Urushi”. The resin of it is the basic raw material for the Japanese handcraft, wooden furniture, bowls and fine arts, generally named in English “japan”. As the matter of natural phenomena, the autumn leaves, getting colored and falling; this process is directly caused by the change of air temperature. The leaves change their colors quickly and fall down quickly. The national flag of Canada is a maple leaf. In the cold climate zone, trees, animals and fish are many in quantity but few in variations. Perhaps Canadian maples have not so many variations therefore when the leaves get red then a huge area would get altogether red and then fall down altogether with strong effect but in a short time. This might not be so easy to sell in the tourism market. Or for Canadian people, red maple autumn leaves are just a daily scene, too common thing to sell as a touristic item. |
