| オリンピック オリンピックの競技種目には、身体能力を競うものと、ゲーム勝敗を競うものがある。 「より速く・より高く・より強く」のモットーで知られている身体能力を競う部門では、参加資格を限定する記録の枠がある。 しかし、考えて見ると、我々人類の身体能力はどうもたいしたことはないようだ。 庭先の野兎でも鹿でも雉でも、とても追っかけて捕まえることは出来そうもない。 ゲームの世界は、サッカーのワールドカップでも明らかなように、オリンピックは、世界選手権にはとても及ばない。 メジャーなゲームスポーツは、それぞれ自前の選手権大会を運営していて、オリンピックでの勝敗は、盛立て役・招き猫である。 しかし、メジャーには今一歩の、バレーボールなどは、オリンピックというマスコミの舞台を利用して成功している。 尤も、メジャーなゲームスポーツといっても、世界的に見れば、クリケットとかアメリカンフットボールなど、熱狂度・人口の両面で超一級のメジャーでも、オリンピック種目には入っていないものもある。 水球・アーチェリー・馬術・柔道・テコンドウといった、オリンピック委員会の会議でのやりとりが眼に浮かぶような、種目もある。 此の頃は、TV放送の権利とか広告権利とか、オリンピックの精神とは程遠い要素が、巨大な力でうごめいている。現代社会をそのまま映しでしているというべきだろう。 主催国にもたらす経済効果、沈降気味の王制人気・支持度の回復、くすぶるアイルランド問題の消火効果、さらに、女王の即位６０周年記念に間に合って、今度のロンドン大会はベストタイミングで開かれるといえる。 マスコミをはじめとして公私のメディアが、「オリンピック・オリンピック」と囃しに囃している。 飢餓・内戦・環境悪化・資源枯渇という構造的難問、 その上、世界的大企業による、なりふり構わぬ投機市場への参入・失敗・破綻がもたらした地球規模の不況から我々の眼をそらさせ、腹の立つことを一瞬忘れさせる、麻薬的効果は非常にある。 若者たちに同士討ち、殺戮を強い、民間人を逃げ惑いさせる戦争・戦況に夢中になるよりはましなのかもしれない。 Olympic Games There are two kinds of the athletic events in the Olympic Games. The one is the competitions of the physical abilities; the motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius" is well-known. And another one is the competitions of the games such as football game or basketball game. To be entitled to participate in competitions of the physical abilities, one must qualify for the specified level. But I feel we human beings’ physical abilities are rather limited and inferior to the other animals in nature. I think it is not an easy match for us even to catch such common wild animals as deer, pheasants and rabbits. Those major sports games as soccer and tennis have their own famous championships: “the World Cup and the Davis Cup”. Their matches at the Olympic Games could be considered the attractions for the Olympic Games. But the sports games which are not really majors as the volley ball, take the Olympic Games as a great occasion to let them climb up to the major sports. By the way, there are major sports games which are not in the program of the Olympic Games such as Cricket and American football. And, on the other hand, Water polo, Archery, Equestrian, Judo and Taekwondo are in the program. I don’t know if they are world wide common. I can imagine the scene of the Olympic Committee discussing which games should be in the Olympic program. Nowadays there is money power as the broad casting rights and advertising rights affecting the pure clean spirit of amateurism of the Olympic Games. It looks like a model of our modern society. The Olympic Games in this summer shall effect on the host nation’s economy great deal, shall recover the popularity of the monarchy, might extinguish the North Ireland problems and is just in time for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The mass communication as the leader, both the public and private media are drumming up the Olympic Games. Starvation, civil wars, pollution and destruction of the environment; these are difficult structural problems for our world. Many multinational corporations shamelessly risked in the speculation market and failed. The global depression caused by their greediness is proceeding now. The Olympic Games as drugs could let us forget these problems for a moment. Perhaps to watch Olympic TV programs is better than to watch programs on the starvation or wars. |
