Short short with English summary
| 花の写真 白い紙に、黒いマジックペンで、ゴキブリを描きます。これを、鋏みで輪郭に沿って切り取り、食卓のお皿の陰に、あるいは、お便所の目の行きやすい隅に置きます。「キャー・ワー」と、大騒ぎとなること、百発百中です。試して見て下さい。 でも、「ゴキブリ」・「cockroach」と書いたカードを置いても、決して事件にはなりません。 文字は、その言葉が通じない人々には役に立ちません。 しかし、私には、それよりも、抽象化された意味が、各自の体験・知識の記憶に照合・参照され、どんな連想を呼ぶのか不確かなのが、もっと心配です。 それでも、言語・文字の一般性・有効性は、我々の文化を支える基礎の大部分を構成しています。 読書の世界のみならず、和歌・俳句を嗜む人口は増加しているようにみえます。 ところが、こう書くべき、こう理解するべきという講座も盛んです。大学の文学部で、無数の教授達が、膨大な学生に、あらゆる言語の文学の正しい読み方を画一的に教えているということは、私の心配を裏付け・立証しています。 愛とか恋という抽象的単語は、一体、どんな照合・参照・連想をされるべきか。 まずは、自らの体験・知識を豊かにしてからのことでしょう。 視聴覚の分野は、基本的に抽象化されていないので、作品がメッセージそのものです。しかし、ここでも、正しい鑑賞・理解の仕方を画一的・教条的に指導するジャーナリズム・講座・講義が幅を利かせています。 良い建物・悪い建物、良い町・悪い町、良い靴・良い鞄。 すべて、自分自身が自由に、注意深く、厳密に築いた、良い生活・望ましき人生とは何か、という物差し・基準により、価値判断されねばなりません。 もちろん、美しい建物・美しいドレス、美醜についても同様です。 大阪万博生き残りの塔・バルセロナ市中心部の巨大な教会。いずれも通説では、美しい名作・芸術作品とされています。 怪しげなジャーナリズム・批評家・学者に騙されないで、自分自身の美感・人生観で判断しましょう。 私のホームページに、草花の写真・人々の生活の写真が多く、文章が少ないのは、私のメッセージが、出来るだけそのまま伝わることを求めてなのです。 Why flowers? On a piece of paper, with a black felt-tip pen, paint a cockroach. Cut the figure out and place it on your dining table half hidden by a plate or place it at a corner in your toilet wall. You can expect nice screams. But placing a card with the word “cockroach” can never give you such a pleasure. Words are naturally useless when its language is not understood. But I worry much more if my message has reached as I have meant, than the fact that the language is not understood. The language you can choose but it is risky and difficult to see if the words evoke the image what you have meant or not. Any way, it has been considered without doubts the words in one language have a common meaning and have been always the basic pillar supporting our culture. Even in our modern TV and IT world, people read a lot of books. In Japan the population who commits to our traditional literal arts such as “Waka” and “Haiku” is increasing. But, the courses how to read, to understand and to write Waka/Haiku are very popular. There are so many faculties of literature in so many universities having courses of literature to teach students the standardized way to read and to understand books. Here my worry is proved. These words such as “love” and “affection” are carnal but highly abstract. To feel and taste, to understand, these words you must enrich your memory through your own experiences. In the audio-visual field, the works are in principle concrete therefore the messages are simple and straight, usually. But here again we find journalisms, courses and faculties giving lessons on the standardized way of evaluation. They are often dogmatic. You are not expected to think or wonder about. Good building/bad building, good street/bad street, good shoes and good bag; every thing must be evaluated by us, by our own measure based on our image of good life. This measure must be carefully made and be checked rather often. It is the same when you evaluate buildings or costumes either beautiful or ugly. The survived symbol tower from “Osaka Expo” or the huge church in the center of Barcelona, these are great arts according to the common view led by dogmatic authorities. Are they really great arts? My home pages often consist of pictures of flowers and people’s daily life. They are nice and beautiful. I hope the pictures evoke the same feeling to the majority of you. |
