グループ旅行
ワールドカップ直前に、１０日間の北欧旅行をしました。私の四人の子供達がそれぞれ３０代半ばに成っている事から考え、今回の旅行は、私にとって多分３０回以上５０回目位になる筈です。
初めて行ったのは、１９６３年・東京オリンピックの前の年で、アンカレッジ・コペンハーゲン経由で２０時間以上かかり、４月１日朝にストックホルムに着いたのを憶えています。それは、私の２７歳の誕生日でした。
当時の日本はまだ外為規制が厳しい頃で、私に許された米ドル枠の内、現金は、５０ドル・１万８千円でした。その頃の日本人は、今のアジア・アフリカから来日される方々が日本国政府から要求されるように、帰りの航空券を提示しなければ諸外国には入国を許されなかったので、往復の航空券を購入し、それには丁度５０万円の外貨がかかりました。その頃の５０万円というと、中年サラリーマンの年収２年分、今の価値では７００万円位にもなるものでした。多くのアジア・アフリカ諸国民にとっての今日の事情は、このようなのでしょう。その頃、日本と米国を結ぶ通常交通手段は、「プレジデントライン」という米国歴代大統領の名前のついた客船便でした。文字通り渡航する留学生を横浜で見送る時代でした。
今回は、一切旅行会社のお世話にならない、一行６名での旅行で、男性は、私を含めて２名、女性４名、平均年齢７０歳・最高年齢８２歳という、グループツアーで、つまり、私の従姉妹等一家眷属で、私のストックホルムの自宅をベースキャンプにして、ストックホルムとヘルシンキを見物しようと言う訳です。そこで私は、元気の良い、人生の大ヴェテラン達が、ストックホルム市内・森・湖・城等の観光、ショッピング、ヘルシンキ往復の船旅と、何の遠慮もなく各自強い個性を発揮する有様を観察する事に成りました。近所のスーパー・都心のマーケット・高級デパートでの品選び、言葉のほとんど通じない障害をみごとに乗り越える様は、全く立派なものでした。
双方にポジティブな姿勢さえあれば、コミュニケーションはとれる、意志は疎通するということです。今回の旅行で我々は、日本・スエーデン・フィンランドと、今日の文明的には実は非常に近く、しかし文化的にそして言語的にはかなり距離のある場を体験しました。つまり、事象の抽象化・ロジックの構造は,言語にかかわらず、ほとんど共通しているといえるでしょう。考えてみると、コンピュータのプログラムはロジックの見本・典型ですが、欧米でも、アジアでも全く共通・兌換性があることに誰も疑い抱くことはありません。 しかし、政治・経済の世界では、摩擦が絶えず、戦争を解決方法と信じている権力者が横行しています。何故でしょう。

A group tour
I had a chance to make a ten-days' journey to Scandinavia just before the world cup. As to Stockholm, since my 4 children are now over thirty years old, this time the journey could be over the thirtieth, close to the fiftieth time for me.
My first visit to Scandinavia, and I still have my family in Stockholm, was in 1963. It took over 20 hours via Anchorage and Copenhagen. I arrived to the air terminal of Stockholm in the early morning of the first of April, my 27th birthday. Those days, Japan was under the strict control of the foreign currencies. I was allowed to buy only 50 US dollars. Japanese had to show the return ticket at the immigration office of the foreign countries, just as today the Japanese authority demands people from Asia, Africa and many other nations. My airplane return-ticket to Stockholm was 500,000 JP yen, just the same price of regular ticket today. Interesting! But 500,000 yen in those days meant 2 years income for a rather well paid man. Today's equivalent value is approx. 7,000,000 yen. Again it reminds me the situation for people of many so-called developing countries. There was a shipping company having passenger boats with names of American presidents sailing between Japan and USA. It was the time when students went to USA by boat.

I think it is a good prove that we can understand only if we have a positive attitude to solve the problems. We were Japanese in Sweden and Finland. Today these countries are actually very similar in the civilization but very different, nearly nothing in common concerning the languages. Our basic intellectual acts, to abstract the concrete thing and to construct the logics, are very common apart from the differences of the languages. The computer programs are the logics. No one doubts the programs are common and convertible into any languages.　　 But our political and economical world is full of misunderstandings and of eternal conflicts. Why have we those power crazies who believe the war as the only solution?
